First time steaming vegetables in the Bamboo steamer !
We have done dumplings a few times but never vegetables. I was trying to channel Life Alive in Cambridge!
We used asparagus, broccoli, mushrooms. zucchini. cooked for about 10 minutes because they’re softer vegetables.
Other things to try: Sweet potato, cauliflower, potatoes, okra, eggplant,corn …Or even shrimp…
Boil the water. Place the layer that needs cooking the longest. Then add the other layer when necessary.
Remember: don’t pile the vegetables! and check the water from time to time to see if it’s still full
Seafood should only take 3-5 minutes.
Apparently, in Japan it is usual to cook rice in the bamboo steamer. For this, you should line the pan with a thin and moist dishcloth and on top of it and place the rice already moistened. In general, the rice is ready in 30 minutes.
You can even herb the water that you boil !
